Parasites

There are people who are so dependent on others that they think it is their right to suck.  They keep doing it unknowingly at the cost of others. One can find such type of individual in every organization and team. Worst happens, when these individuals are at leadership position and their decisions plays critical role in success of company.

Recently one of my friend was sent to a construction site located out station. Site was 35 km from his hotel.  Since  there was no onsite office, my friend decided not to carry his laptop. When he reached on site and just started his work, his boss called him and asked him to send a quotation to one of their customer on ASAP basis. He told his boss that he is not carrying his laptop and he can send it only in evening after returning to hotel. But boss told him, that it was urgent and he must send it within an hour- ego comes into picture.

My friend request his boss that since his other team members are in office, he can ask them to send quotation. But his boss was  not in mood to listen. Either his boss did not have confidence in other or want to trouble him. After few hot exchanges on phone my friend agreed to return to hotel and send the quotation. He took taxi went to hotel, submitted the quotation and come back to site again.

After submission of quotation thru mail, my friend called his customer to confirm whether they have received quotation or not? On which customer informed him that he has not seen the mail and since tomorrow is republic day he can go through quotation only day after tomorrow.

What did company achieved?
1) Taxi bills
2) Time loss
3)  Employees frustration

Be careful while changing traveling plan on last moment and plan & use juniors efficiently.

The beauty of the place is not only due to these architecture but the vast casuarinas trees & silvery sandy beach.

Coldest day of winter

Delhiites shivered today as the maximum temperature plummeted to 14 degree Celsius, making it the coldest day of this winter.
Icy winds blew across the city and overnight rains added to the chill in the morning hours. Fog also returned to the national capital as the mercury dropped overnight after 2 days of clear sky gave relief to old persons.
It was a foggy night in Delhi with the visibility falling below 50 meters at one point. The capital also recorded a rainfall of 0.5 mm during the night.
Rains had lashed the city over the past two days and were attributed to a western disturbance.
The Met department has predicted a downward trend for the mercury for the next two days when the minimum is likely to fall to as low as six degrees.

Boiled Frog

They say that if you put a frog into a pot of boiling water, it will leap out right away to escape the danger

But, if you put a frog in a kettle that is filled with water that is cool and pleasant, and then you gradually heat the kettle until it starts boiling, the frog will not become aware of the threat until it is too late.

The frog's survival instincts are geared towards detecting sudden changes.

This is a story that is used to illustrate how people might get themselves into terrible trouble.
This parable is often used to illustrate how humans have to be careful to watch slowly changing trends in the environment, not just the sudden changes. Its a warning to keep us paying attention not just to obvious threats but to more slowly developing ones.

A turn of the screw

There was an industrialist whose production line inexplicably breaks down, costing him millions per day. He finally tracks down an expert who takes out a screwdriver, turns one screw, and then - as the factory cranks back to life - presents a bill for £10,000. Affronted, the factory owner demands an itemised version. The expert is happy to oblige: "For turning a screw: £1. For knowing which screw to turn: £9,999."

Journaling - Habit for self improvement

This is one of the most important habits to build for yourself improvement. There are at least three reasons why journaling is important:

It makes you find the lessons behind every experience
Perhaps this is not the case in the beginning, but once you make journaling a habit, your mind will automatically explore every possible lesson in your experiences. Rather than just being a passing event, every experience becomes a learning opportunity.

It encourages you to think through the lessons you learn
Journaling involves writing down the lessons you learn. To do that, you will have to get the gist of the lesson and put it in a concise form. That encourages you to think through the lesson so that you can truly get it. This will make the lesson sinks deeper into your mind and heart.

It helps you remember the lessons
First, the act of writing itself helps you remember the lesson. And second, your journal becomes a place that you can refer to in case you forgot the lesson.

As you can see, journaling is good for yourself improvement, not just for the end product but also for the process itself. So, if you haven’t done so, make journaling a habit of yours this year.

WakaWaka solar LED lamp

Although we have entered 2012 approximately 1.5 billion people around the globe remain without access to a stable or safe source of light. Commonly in some of the world's poorest regions, kerosene lanterns are the standard form of night time lighting, which leads to the possibility of fires, explosions, asphyxiation and toxic fumes. Cheap, accessible solar lighting presents an obvious solution to this problem and the latest tilt at making this a reality is WakaWaka - a solar LED lamp concept that can fit snuggly onto a soda bottle.

WakaWaka lamp is a solar charged, portable LED lamp that hopes to hit the market with a low US$10 price tag, which is the equivalent of 2-3 months worth of toxic kerosene fuel. Unlike its competitors, the WakaWaka promises to provide 16 hours of light from one day of solar charge. Solar Pebble comes close with 12 hours of light but the others fall behind with only 4-6 hours of usage time.

The two minute rule

Everyone has to deal with interruptions to their work, especially when you’re working at a computer with email constantly pinging into your in box. In his book Getting Things Done, David Allen suggests a simple rule for interruptions: if it can be done in two minutes, do it now. If not, write it down in your notebook and forget about it. Later on in the day, you can go through your notebook and actually allocate some time to all the items you’ve collected throughout the day.

China reveal super fast 500 km/hr train

China's state press agency, Xinhua, reports that the country's largest rail vehicle maker has debuted a six-car train more than twice as powerful and 200 km/h (124 mph) faster than the high-speed models currently in service between Beijing and Shanghai. The new electric test train can draw a maximum of 22,800 kilowatts and is reportedly capable of reaching speeds as high as 500 km/h (311 mph), making it one of the fastest trains ever designed for commercial passenger use.

China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited (CSR) says the train is the newest in its CRH series and its aerodynamic shape is inspired by an ancient Chinese sword. It is constructed from plastic materials reinforced with carbon fiber, resulting in a lightweight, aerodynamic vehicle capable of higher speeds than the CRH380 train on which it is based.
